Building on from the success in Singapore over the last several years, many of those have had great involvement supporting business in Japan. However, it was clear from the offset, that in order to really be successful, a presence within the country would be vital in order to be able to meet our clients and candidates across the markets that we currently operate in. With a huge market opportunity, in particular amongst global leading medical technology firms based in Japan, who constantly require new talent to join them, in what is a very challenging candidate market I add, for us at Barrington James, this was the perfect time to welcome Sejin Oh to the business.  Now nice and settled into the business, we sat down with Sejin to get him to introduce himself to Barrington James! 


Tell us about your background and previous experience?

I have worked in recruitment for over 8 years, successfully setting up another healthcare agency in Japan from scratch and also working within in-house recruitment in that time. This has given me varied experience across the agency side and the internal side of recruitment in Japan.  Something fun about me is that I used to compete in Judo, placing 5th in one of the all Japan Championships; I even nearly qualified for the Japan National Team. Now I’m not so fit…due to too much Sake and Asahi!


Why did you join Barrington James?

Stuart Clark was very influential when asking me to join Barrington James Asia! Not only that though, I have always enjoyed some healthy competition, and starting up Barrington James in Japan will mean that there is a great opportunity for internal and external competition. After many discussions with Jonathan Jenkins, COO and Dan Barrington, CEO, I knew that I would be the one to not only create a lot of competition in Japan, but also on a global level!


What will your main focus be at Barrington James?

My main focus within Barrington James Japan will be Commercial Roles such as Marketing, Commercial Excellence and Sales, alongside raising the brand profile of Barrington James in Japan. I hope to create a great competition culture within the company. I also have high aspirations to make Barrington James the best recruiting firm that can provide the best solutions to our clients as well as providing a high quality experience to candidates.
