In today’s rapidly changing business world, the importance of finance recruitment, both contract and permanent could be at its highest. The current state of uncertainty the world finds its self in, complimented with the ever evolving Covid-19 situation with its dynamic balance of measures and restrictions has heightened the emphasis on business’s long term financial strategy. With some business’s being put on the back foot due to restrictions, their financial game plan dealt a blow and its course changed to flex with the new dynamic. With this, comes a need for finance professionals on the short term to be able to adapt and evolve for the long term. However, as some industries being negatively impacted, company’s budgets shrinking and an increase in hesitancy to hire permanently being increased. Here, the opportunity of contract recruitment is now evident more than ever.
Contract recruitment comes in many different forms, anything from ad-hoc project work to working full-time 40 hours a week for a whole year. An hours worked hours paid contractor, compared to a salaried employee will cost more per hour on average. However, with a contractor you aren’t paying for dead time, you only pay them for work done. You also have the added benefit of no additional employment costs.
It’s not all doom and gloom. Some industries have double down during Covid-19. Organisations’ financial strategies would’ve shifted to account for more rapid growth. In this case, we have found businesses far more bullish in their hiring strategies. Most have been favouring a long term, permanent solution to their ‘new’ financial plan. However, access to that top talent that every business is looking for, is now further out of reach than ever. Candidates being less willing to take a gamble in an unstable market like we have today is a driving force for a reduced talent pool. This has sparked an explosive reaction in the talent access space, attributing more value to recruiters and head-hunters with established networks and market presence. These professionals have an ability to approach and captivate passive candidates who would have not been on the market applying for normal job postings. This extra skill set is something that separates professional consultative recruiters from those reliant on job ads and active candidates.
At Barrington James we have a dedicated Finance team made up of experienced finance recruiters who have the passive network of candidates who are not accessible to companies hiring. Candidates from transactional accounting and financial analytics right through to C-Suite level. Our decades of experience, networking and relationships enable us to connect unicorn candidates with our clients.
