Back in January 2017, we set ourselves the goal of raising as much money as possible for a little girl called Isabella, so her and her family could ‘create memories’.
Isabella is 2 years old and has no right ventricle in her heart (which is the chamber that pumps blood to the lungs). Her parents knew from the very beginning that she would need three open heart surgeries.
This is a life limiting disease which so far has seen Isabella have her first open heart surgery at just 5 days old. Unfortunately she then had a cardiac arrest at 7 days old, requiring a further operation/heart massage and another open heart procedure 2 days later. At 6 weeks she underwent surgery to clean a blood infection in her chest & rewire her sternum – the blood infection caused the chest wires to snap, breaking her little ribs.
We made it our mission to give back to them – and give them the opportunity to fly out to Disney World Orlando and have an unforgettable time creating memories together.
All the Barrington James offices got involved, from our UK hub all the way to our offices in America and Asia, everybody wanted to be a part of the ‘BJ Has A Heart’ campaign.
Fundraising efforts went from spending 24 hours in the office, to tuck shops, to our global offices getting involved in a ‘Disney Day’ and dressing up as an array of Disney characters (pictures below!)
Our other fundraising ideas (as you can see from the pictures above) ranged from Ice Bucket challenges, to cake sales and even massages!
We had support from Master Barbers who donated all the proceeds from haircuts to the BJ Has A Heart campaign!
We had the pleasure of meeting Isabella and her family on the day and were absolutely chuffed to tell them that they were receiving a trip to Disney World including accommodation in our CEO’s villa in Orlando!
Our campaign was picked up by a number of publications, which helped to spread the word of Isabella’s story. HR Grapevine & Recruitment Grapevine were the first to write about us, and we were extremely chuffed that The Lad Bible named us ‘Lads Of The Week’!
Since the campaign ended in March, our Associate Director Dean Govier has kept in touch with Isabella’s mum Bex, who said to us earlier this week:
”Honestly though, what you and your team have done to get us on the plane on Saturday is out of this world. I wish I could bottle up the atmosphere in the house at the moment so we can share it all with you!”
From everybody at Barrington James, we wish Isabella and her family the most wonderful time!
