What is your mission for the contract/freelance business?
My Mission is to provide a fully outsourced contract solution on an individual and project basis to our existing & prospective client base within Asia, supplementing our core Permanent Sectors in Asia.
Barrington James will be providing a fully compliant local payroll solution for each of our placed contractors across Asia, including but not limited to time sheet management, site/office support, local insurances, taxation & contractor care
Why did you join Barrington James?
I joined Barrington James because the company is a dedicated global Life Science Recruitment Specialist consultancy with the ambition to be the largest in the industry. The opportunity to set up and lead the Contract Division in Asia was an exciting proposition that I couldn’t turn down in a vibrant and growing industry.
What is the difference of contract and permanent business (Asia)
In simple terms, permanent recruitment is defined as when a candidate will be placed on the client’s payroll and headcount. Contract or Freelance recruitment is where the candidate/contractor is placed on our payroll therefore the role being outsourced to Barrington James.
Why would a contractor be beneficial to the client?
There are a number of benefits behind outsourcing the role; these revolve around cost, urgency of the role, experience of the candidate and convenience. Reducing headcount or a hiring freeze is an initiative or requirement imposed on a number of Hiring managers and Department Heads.
Outsourcing the role or scope of work to a Specialist recruiter like ourselves will provide a short or medium term solution while maintaining the work load and quality of work.
Contractors and Freelancers hold a considerable amount of experience and knowledge in specialist areas. Therefore the contractors’ skillset is able to be harnessed by the client in order to benefit their project for the required time-frame, ensuring the complete personnel utilisation, cost & time efficiency of the resource.
Who is Patrick Brown? What is your experience?
“Originally from the Kent, upon leaving school I spent a year in Australia playing Club and District Rugby in Central Queensland before studying Sports Science at Brunel University in West London. After leaving University I started working in sales, wanting a more dynamic and international opportunity, I moved to recruitment working for Spencer Ogden in London.
I worked there for 4 years making my way up to Head of Engineering & Downstream for our Oil & Gas contract division covering Europe & the Middle East where we provided a fully outsourced project services offering to our local & International clients.
My sports background and love of travel prepared me well for a fast paced, competitive environment with the opportunity to work internationally, I later relocated to Singapore with Spencer Ogden at the end of 2015 to Head up O&G and Engineering, looking to diversify the Division in the wake of the O&G downturn while generating new business in more specialist areas.
I oversaw our contract book of over 180 contractors, holding particular focus on growing our Singapore contractor base & worked closely with developing our International clients into stronger regional accounts.”
